The 2022 World Cup is less than three years from now and hosts Qatar have continued to push through the construction of various infrastructures for the showpiece. One of the stadiums billed to host some matches in the World Cup Al Wakrah Stadium is set to be ready for launch on 16 May.
Al Wakrah stadium is a state of the art facility which is located less than 30 km from the capital Doha and possesses retractable roof and cooling system. Since the weather in the middle east at certain periods of the year is harsh the cooling system would bring the stadium to comfortable temperatures for games to be played at all times.
The Stadium project manager Khalifa Al Zarraa told reporters that Al Wakrah stadium possesses a uniquely innovative design which would make it an iconic venue for the event. According to him the Amir Cup final to be hosted at the stadium would give the world an opportunity to view this unique stadium.
Qatar has enjoyed some degree of success in football winning the Asian Cup for the first time in their history in January. The Gulf nation is also billed to take part in the 2020 Copa America as one of the two invited teams for the tournament as part of their preparation for the 2022 World Cup.
There still remain some doubts over whether it would be a 32-nation or 48-nation tournament as FIFA president Gianni Infantino wants to push through for an expanded tournament. However, Qatar have continued to make plans for a 32-nation World Cup.
